If there is one word that seems to scare homeowners and renters, it would have to be, mold. While the word is scary for most and finding it within your home is nothing short of stressful, luckily there are a few ways that you can try to help make sure that you keep your home safe and free of any unwanted mold growth or potential health hazards.
#1 Check the Humidity Levels
Understanding your home’s humidity levels is vital. This will help keep your home, clean, safe, and free of any health hazards that could be caused by potential mildew, try to keep the humidity within your home below 60 at all times.
#2 Repair Leaks
If you notice a leaky pipe, a drip under the sink, etc. don’t wait, act on the leak immediately and ensure that the leak is repaired properly. Not only will this help you from having any unwanted damage, but it will help stop the growth before it even starts.
#3 Improve Airflow
Stuffy air is easily one of the biggest culprits of mold growth aside from moisture. If you don’t have good circulation throughout your home, try to upgrade your HVAC system or install some fans, whether ceiling fans, or floor fans, any air movement is helpful in keeping your home clean.
#4 Clean Windowsills Bi-Weekly
One of the most common places to see mold within a home, especially homes in cooler and wetter climates, is in windowsills. Luckily windowsills are generally quite easy to clean, and if added to your regular cleaning schedules, should not be an area of concern.

#5 Re-Caulk Tubs and Showers
You may start to notice black dots surrounding the caulking of your tubs or showers which is one of the most common places to find mold in your home. Luckily, you can not only clean the area, but re-seal the caulking to prevent future growth from happening. Simply remove the old caulking, clean and dry the area thoroughly, and apply new caulking to re seal the tub or shower area.
If the go to bleach/water cleaning solution doesn’t seem to do the trick, you may want to call a professional mold removal service to assess the area and come up with a treatment plan to not only remove the mold, but to help ensure that your home stays mold free.
